Who are you? Where are your roots?
Well, we're two people. Elijah and Rhonda Wyman. We're married and love eachother. I (Elijah) grew up in Southern California. Rhonda was born in North Carolina, but grew up in MA. Now we live in Salem, MA, The Witch City. We'd like to move somewhere pretty.
What were you like in High School?
Rhonda had hot pink hair...so did I. Rhonda wore a plastic necklace that looked like candy ALL the time. Elijah played drums or bass in lots of bands. Both of them went to a good deal of shows.
What would you consider your muse?
Rhonda's work is often inspired by nature and love. Our latest line is of birds.
What is your favorite medium, and why?
Rhonda works mostly in silver, but she is always a little frustrated and wants to do other stuff. I play folk music and we make most of my cd packaging and merch by hand. For that stuff, I like recycled cardboard a lot.
Tell me about your artwork, what kind of style are you?
I'd call the jewelry elegant and earthy.
Who do you think your top market is?
We like to think that we make stuff for people like us, but in reality we're far to young and poor to be dropping cash on jewelry. This is a question we grapple with often. This is also why we have two sites, Eli and Ra, and Figs and Ginger. In our mind, Figs is for people with a little cash to their name while Eli and Ra is for people like us.
Who is your most favorite and least favorite celebrity?
I don't really have one. I always forget their names! Rhonda likes Johnny Depp. I think everyone does. We both love M. Night Shyamalan's movies.
Do you listen to music while you create? If so, which, and who is your favorite?
We spend long hours in the studio listening to books on tape together. If we have no book on tape, Rhonda "needs" music while I love silence.
Other than creating art - what is your favorite hobby?
We like apple picking during season(Our first date). I like cooking. Art and music pretty much envelope our lives though.
What do you believe is essential for an etsy seller?
A nice camera.
- Thanks for taking the time to read this interview! And a big thanks to Eli and Ra!
